Vasectomy is the birth-control procedure that involves surgical interruption of the vas deferens, or sperm duct, so that sperm can no longer exit during ejaculation. According to a recent study, most men seeking a vasectomy undergo sterilization without hesitation. Moreover, few men arrive at the decision to undergo a vasectomy on their own. About fifty percent of the respondents to the survey indicated that they had been thinking about having a vasectomy for a year or less before the procedure. Most did not want additional children and felt that a vasectomy was preferable to other forms of birth control. Ninety-one percent said their wives, girlfriends, or partners had been involved in their decisions.

P.S. A recent study from New Zealand reveals that vasectomy is not a risk factor for prostate cancer. Studies in the US concur.
